Perplexity, an AI search application, has announced a partnership with Seattle-based Firmly to enhance its e-commerce capabilities. This collaboration aims to enable businesses to sell products directly within the Perplexity platform, thereby improving user shopping convenience. Firmly, founded five years ago by three former Samsung executives, specializes in enabling digital commerce transactions across various channels, including content, messaging apps, digital ads, and live streaming. The company's philosophy is to allow consumers to complete purchases at the moment they "get inspired," capitalizing on their instant needs.
The partnership between Perplexity and Firmly aligns with consumer demand for seamless shopping experiences, as highlighted by Kumar Senthil, CEO of Firmly, who previously worked at Microsoft for eight years and was Product Manager at Groupon before serving as Global E-Commerce Product Manager at Samsung. Senthil attributes the rise of social media platforms like TikTok to the need for a "one-click purchase" experience, where users can see what they are interested in and immediately buy without the hassle of lengthy checkout processes.
Perplexity, which launched a shopping tool last November, will benefit from this partnership by receiving all revenue generated from sales made by partner brands using Firmly's solutions. This new feature is expected to significantly enhance user shopping experiences and boost business sales capabilities.
Perplexity is also planning a round of fundraising at a valuation of $18 billion, with annual recurring revenue nearing $100 million. Additionally, the company acquired Carbon from Seattle last December, a startup that focuses on connecting external data sources with large language models to further expand its technological capabilities.
Firmly's investors include FJ Labs, BGV, Ark Invest, Rapid Ventures, among others, indicating market interest and support for its innovative solutions. With the continuous enhancement of its e-commerce features, Perplexity not only advances in the AI search field but also offers more convenient shopping experiences, setting the stage for future developments.
